Twins’ Rising Superstar Royce Lewis on Track to Return Within Original Injury Timeline
Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

Byron Buxton was placed on injured reserve Friday afternoon, even after his MRI came back negative. That was a bittersweet pill for Minnesota Twins fans to swallow. But shortly after that hit our collective stomach, we got some much more positive and, undoubtedly, more significant news in regards to blossoming superstar Royce Lewis’s quad injury.

According to Dan Hayes (The Athletic), Lewis is on track to return from his ‘severe quad injury’ within the original recovery timeline, which was about eight weeks. Hayes notes that Lewis is currently on week five of his rehab schedule.

When will Royce Lewis return to Minnesota Twins lineup?

My small town Minnesota math tells me that leaves approximately three more weeks until we can start thinking about seeing Royce back in the middle of the lineup. That means we should see him back in a Twins uniform before the start of June… hopefully?

Royce Lewis didn’t last one game of the 2024 Minnesota Twins’ season, before he left with a torn quad that required at least two months of rehab. But… in classic Royce Lewis fashion, he went 2-for-2 with a home run, prior to his exit.

There is no doubt that Royce has that superstar in him. The only question that remains is the same one that seems to plague every potential star on this team, which is long-term health concerns. Talent only takes players so far. You have to stay on the field.

In his 259 MLB at bats, the near 25-year-old (June 5) is hitting .313, with a .933 OPS, including 58 RBI and 18 home runs. He’s also proven to be a very steady defender at 3rd base.

When Royce, Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton are all in the lineup, the Twins have one of the best defenses in the American League. But without two of three, they are below average.
